Art-is not only the game of imagination or pleasant pastime but it is first of all the act of art for creating of which three components are needed — individuality, nature and tradition. These components dominate in the art of well-known Kharkiv artist Eugene Segal — intelligent, changeable artist who isn't tired of cognition of the world and to find his place there every time.

Incredible hard-working of an artist give him an opportunity to organise exhibitions all th time. Only for 1998 he had three personal exhibitions: «Retro» in Baden-Baden, Germany, «Little Passions of Small People» in Kharkiv (Vernisage Gallery), and then in one of the main galleries in New York where his [painting impressed by the brightness and intensity of color. Art critics showed a respect towards his beliefs and also pointed out his pictorial handicraft. A year later series «World of Small People» was exposed in C.Art Gallery in
Moscow.

A special place in the art of this artist is the series «Retro». Light autumn rain in old quarter, melancholic passers by walking down old paving block, multicolored roofs of the houses and different fasades, sun rays tangled in the leaves...Everywhere is shown the slow flowing of city time. The paintings arise different associations. The pinter creates different images which are accepted differently by the different people, and for the artist are the source of endless happiness. («English Cottage», «Family at the Promenade», «At the Breakfast», «Women with Mops», «The Two»).
